What it does

Built for the freight dock, not a regulations textbook

Placard Pro is designed to help docks manage multiple bills of lading at once. When you're running a lot of loads, it's easy for details to get lost in the shuffle โ€” Placard Pro can analyze dozens of BOLs in about a minute, saving you time and costly errors. Drivers save time too, with the same fast, accurate results in the field.

01

Manifest & BOL scanning

Upload a photo of the freight manifest and its bills of lading. PlacardPro extracts UN numbers, hazard classes, packing groups, and gross weights automatically.

02

Automatic placard determination

Aggregate weight thresholds, Table 1 materials, subsidiary hazards, and mixed-load rules are all applied in code โ€” not left to guesswork on the dock.

03

Compatibility & segregation warnings

Flags materials that shouldn't travel together, with segregation distances and spill guidance surfaced before the truck is loaded.

04

UN number lookup

A free, no-signup UN number search for quick reference to proper shipping names and hazard classes in the field.

05

Role-based workflow

Drivers, dispatchers, and safety managers each get a scanning flow suited to how they actually work a load.

06

Hazmat placarding course

A 9-chapter certification course with a 30-question exam, built around real-world scenarios and current 49 CFR requirements.

Why Use Placard Pro

One scan pays for itself many times over

Placarding mistakes cost more than a fine โ€” they cost a stopped shipment. Here's what accurate, automatic placard determination actually protects.

Avoid costly DOT violations

A single placarding mistake can mean thousands in fines or a stopped shipment. Placard Pro applies 49 CFR ยง172.504 placard rules automatically so the right placards are flagged every time.

Save time at the dock

No more flipping through the ERG or guessing at hazard tables. Upload your manifest and BOLs โ€” get required placards, segregation rules, and emergency guidance in seconds.

Catch bulk & mixed-load mistakes

Bulk shipments (IBC totes, tanks) and mixed loads have special placard rules that are easy to miss. The scanner flags bulk items individually and applies the DANGEROUS substitution rule correctly.

Accurate weight thresholds

Table 2 materials only need placards above 1,001 lbs. Placard Pro sums gross weight per hazard class and tells you exactly which placards trigger โ€” and why, with CFR references.

Live emergency response data

Every flagged hazmat item pulls real ERG 2024 guidance โ€” firefighting media, spill isolation distances, PPE, and first aid โ€” so you're ready before you roll, not after an incident.

Protect your CSA score & wallet

Correct placarding keeps your truck moving, protects your carrier CSA score, and avoids out-of-service orders that cost a day of revenue.

How to use Placard Pro

1

Upload your manifest

Start by uploading a clear photo of the manifest or tally sheet. The scanner reads it in the background to figure out how many BOLs contain hazmat โ€” so you only upload the ones that matter.

๐Ÿ’ก Take a photo with your phone (JPG/PNG). PDFs cannot be scanned โ€” use a photo instead.

2

Upload the hazmat BOLs

Once the manifest is read, upload only the hazmat bills of lading it flagged. Each BOL is analyzed as its own item with its own UN number, weight, and packaging.

๐Ÿ’ก Make sure weight, UN number, and hazard class are legible in the photo โ€” these drive the placard result.

3

Run the analysis

Press Analyze. Placard Pro reads every BOL, extracts the hazmat data verbatim, applies 49 CFR placard rules, checks bulk/mixed-load logic, and flags any missing fields on the documents.

๐Ÿ’ก You'll see live status messages while it works. Results appear automatically when done.

4

Review required placards

The report shows exactly which placards to display, the CFR rule behind each one, total weight per class, and whether DANGEROUS may substitute for individual class placards on a mixed load.

๐Ÿ’ก Bulk items show their UN number placard separately. Compatibility warnings flag materials that must be segregated.

5

Check emergency guidance

Tap any hazmat item to pull live ERG 2024 data โ€” firefighting media, spill isolation distances, protective action zones, PPE, and first aid. Share or save the report for your records.

๐Ÿ’ก Emergency contact numbers from your BOL are surfaced too, including CHEMTREC (1-800-424-9300).

6

Dispute, rescan, or save

If a placard looks wrong, dispute it with a photo and reason โ€” you get a free rescan credit and your fleet admin reviews it. Otherwise, save the analysis to your history for an audit trail.

๐Ÿ’ก Every scan is stored to your Hazmat History so you can pull it up anytime.

Example determination

Two hazmat BOLs โ€” a Class 6.1 poison and a Class 8 corrosive โ€” trigger individual placards plus a DANGEROUS placard option for the mixed load, per 49 CFR ยง172.504(b).
